If you drink the MySpace hatorade, I don’t think MySpace’s little redesign is going to draft you from FaceBook, but I still think the gang over there did a great job.
So upon logging into MySpace this morning to check my mail (yes I use MySpace mail more than my Gmail), I noticed this disgustingly ugly homepage. Ok so it’s a promotion for The Dark Knight and I’ll forgive MySpace because, deh, they have to make money somehow.
However, upon actually logging into MySpace, I’m mighty impressed. Heres the note from the MySpace queen bee:
Hey Folks! No doubt you’ve noticed the new login page with The Dark Knight animation when you logged in today. We’ve also changed the navigation and the user home page (only the new user home, not the classic). The new navigation gives you immediate access to commands without having to return to your home page. Your “inbox” link is now in the main nav – just click “mail” from anywhere on the site. I know it takes getting used to any change, but give it a chance and I think you’ll find that things are laid out quite simply. To read more about the nav & home page changes, check the two blogs I posted as preview many months ago: navigation, new home page. – Tom
So FINALLY when you click on “Home” you go to your admin and not to the MySpace homescreen before being able to access your admin. Sweet.
The new navigation is sweet. You can now access your mail from the top navigation and access all of your other admin options from anywhere on the site, regardless of where you are. You know… stalking an ex-boyfriend, using an obnoxious Facebook-esque app, or just uploading pictures of yourself that don’t make you look fat when you put the camera at just the right angle.

And now there’s a “More” dropdown list so you’re no longer cluttered with the many sanctions of MySpace like classifieds, games, horoscopes, useless, useless, useless.
Also, Music and MySpace TV get their own button which is OK with me.

I’ve always preferred MySpace over Facebook, but it’s really all about where everyone is. For me, more people I know are on MySpace. I keep a Facebook account because I have some valuable friends on it, but I almost never use it. Instead I’ve added Facebook to Adium and I keep in contact that way. Easy cheesy. So props to MySpace for finally making an effort on their information architecture. Snazzy.
