I have painfully wanted to organize an barcamp on blogging for some time now. After this weekend at PodCamp Boston 3, I am more inspired than ever. I haven’t found any real bar-style camps on overall blogging.
So what am I waiting for? Well, I need a partner in crime. Doesn’t everyone? But even moreso, I still haven’t figured out how to secure sponsors and a venue.
I could create a site, make marketing materials, social network it, and implement online registration in a night.. but how do you do so without offering a location? And how do you offer a location without sponsors? But how do you get sponsors without telling them when, where, and how many?
I was going to ask Chris Brogan about his experiences—which comes first, the chicken or the egg—but he’s in a grumpy mood today so I won’t bug him with my kindergarten curiosity.
I also wonder, which is better, Boston or Providence. I live in Providence, so it would be better for me, but I’d prefer that more people come so I think Boston is more ideal.
Anyone looking for a partner in crime?

Sounds fun. The only downside is that Podcamp is already so blogging based imho. Still, could be a fun smaller event. Do Boston as that reaches a greater audience and also allows North Shore people to more easily attend. Email me and maybe I’ll work with you on it.
Get in touch with Sara Streeter who did NewBCamp.

She’s awesome, she’s super friendly, and she’s done an unconference IN Providence AND made it a huge success.
I’d recommend talking to Sara, too. I was part of NewBCamp and she did an awesome job. I’d love to help with what I can, particularly if it’s in Providence.
Thanks christopher and adarowski, I’m chatting with her now
David Fisher, I think you’re right about the location, I’ve had other people say the same thing. I have a tentative location that is perfect and if that works out, then I’ll be very, very excited.
I’m not sure PodCamp is really for bloggers though. I don’t think I went to any blogging sessions over the weekend though I was hoping to find some. I think PodCamp and BlogCamp would be complimentary
Plus also good I’d think for the traditional media crowd that isn’t so far into geekdom just yet. I’m thinking of having one track dedciated just to publishing 2.0.
Thanks for the feedback guys, I’m excited
Providence is so much cooler than Boston. You should do it there.
I’m a big supporter of local flavor, I was ranting about this Saturday night for a while. Don’t worry about making the biggest splash the first time around. Get something on the ground that’s solid and a good event. Then next time, provided that you put something good out there, it’ll attract more people. Especially if you do you homework about putting media up before and afterwards.
My support is for Providence. You can ride the commuter rail from Boston, so those people have no real excuse.
